STATEMENT NECKLACE & HANDKERCHIEF HEM SKIRT

I’m kicking off the London & Paris trip recap posts today with a quick outfit post from one of my first nights in London. I’m still deciding how I want to break up the travel-focused and itinerary content (vote in my poll on Twitter here and if you have any other ideas, please tweet me or comment below).   I don’t want to share too much about my trip since I’ll save that for the recap posts, but this outfit was from our second night in London. Typically, we walked around all day, then came back to the hotel to shower, freshen up and change into something a bit nicer for dinner. On this particular night, we were heading to Hakkasan in Mayfair. I’ll share more details about the meal later, but for now I’ll leave you with a quick description. It was the most unique menu I’ve ever seen (mind you I am a fairly picky eater) and loved everything we ate.

Now, onto the outfit. When we were packing for London, we were expecting cooler weather (high 60’s, low 70’s) but it ended up being record breaking-ly warm. I originally planned on wearing this with my cropped leather jacket, it still made a great outfit. My favorite statement necklace is this one from Urban Outfitters I got in the sale section a few years ago. It was really one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Its so unique and versatile. Having a fairly minimal wardrobe, it really spices up any outfit and compliments my basic and often neutral colored outfits nicely.

I particularly love how the necklace looks paired with this more feminine and flowey skirt I got from Free People a few years ago (also on sale, actually!). My favorite part of the skirt is the handkerchief hemline. I’ve noticed its been a big trend in the last year or so, and mine is definitely more subtle. I haven’t always been a huge fan of maxi skirts because I feel like they can look kind of boring, but this detail on the hem keeps it more interesting. I just paired it with a simple mock-turtleneck tank from Zara and let my skirt and necklace do all the talking. Again, I just wore my simple black sandals from Urban Outfitters (last year). I bought a super cute pair of black heels before my trip, but we had a 40 minute walk to dinner that my feet definitely couldn’t handle in heels, so sandals it was.

What is your favorite way to spice up a simple outfit? Comment below! XO, Nicole

  1. Thanks! I usually try for statement scarves or jewelry. Especially for travel, I tried to only pack neutral shoes that went with everything I packed. I wish I was more experimental with makeup when I'm trying to add something to an otherwise simple outfit.

  2. Thank you, Jamie! Necklace is all around great (except to pack since its on the heavier side- ha). Still trying to sort through the 2,000 pictures I have from London and Paris… First post will probably be up on Monday 🙂
