In case you didn’t catch Part 1 of my California vacation recap, which was all about my time in San Francisco, be sure to check it out.

Yosemite is a National Park in Northern California. My family and I spent three days there, which for us, was the perfect amount of time. We saw all of the “main attractions” and also had some downtime, which was great after a hectic (but amazing!!) few days in San Francisco.

On our first day in Yosemite, we visited Mariposa Grove, home of the Giant Sequoias, which are giant trees. I’ll be honest, I was thinking that our tour of Mariposa Grove was going to be so boring because… who cares? It is just a bunch of trees, what makes them so special? But let me tell you, I was wrong. These trees were huge and a lot of them had holes in the trunk so you could literally walk through the trees. We did a tram tour of the Grove since we only had about an hour and definitely couldn’t hike the whole area in an hour!

Our second day in Yosemite was spent hiking. We took a bus up to the top if Glacier Point, which is basically a very popular vista point where you can see great views of some of the major mountains/ rocks in the Valley. After taking the bus up, we took some pictures and hiked down on the Four Mile Trail.

Four Mile Trail… doesn’t sound too hard, until you’re hiking down hill, not wearing the right shoes (apparently training sneakers are not appropriate for hiking… oops!) on a sometimes uneven and rocky surface. It was a ton of fun though, even though I probably would have enjoyed myself more if I was wearing the right shoes!

The entire hike down was a panorama of scenic Yosemite. With every turn I made on the trail was a new view point of something I had seen before, and everything kept getting more beautiful. I absolutely recommend the Four Mile Trail to anyone visiting Yosemite. One more quick note about the Four Mile Trail– Neither my family nor I are big hikers, and as long as you’re in generally good shape, you should be fine to hike this trail, its nothing crazy hard!

We did a tour of the Valley Floor on our last full day in Yosemite. The valley floor was filled with wildlife and beautiful plants, streams and wildlife. My favorite stop along our tour was this stream we visited. The morning sunlight was hitting the water and you could see right through the water, straight to the bottom. It was also surrounded by bright green trees and some rocks and mountains in the background… Talk about the perfect Instagram!

We were all wearing matching US Rowing t-shirts to support my host sister, Amanda, in her qualifying heat race at Rowing World Champs! (USA won!)

During my short time in Yosemite National Park, I saw some of the most beautiful works of nature and I highly recommend seeing it for yourself one day, the pictures don’t do it justice!

Have you ever been to Yosemite? What did you do? Any questions about my trip? Comment below!
