Well, as soon as it was starting to feel like winter here in New Jersey, its 47° again. I’ve been struggling with my outfits lately because I love a layered look for winter, but I simply don’t need to layer a sweater, scarf and coat when its this warm. After scrolling through tumblr (follow me here), going through my closet and watching a few of Sammi Quinn‘s videos, I’ve found a solution. I just have to layer with the right pieces. So, at least while the weather is still wacky, I’m trading my chunky knit infinity scarves for skinny scarves and bandanas and my thick boot socks for fun tights.

There are so many different ways to wear skinny scarves and bandanas. I’ve watched so many YouTube videos about how to wear and style them (I love Sammi’s and Michaela’s). One of the first places I saw them was the  Chloé F/W 2015 collection. More recently, I see this trend on street style blogs and places like Tumblr and Pinterest. Also, Free People has a bunch of super popular skinny scarves right now which I am obsessed with (for great prices). I’m currently deciding between a few solid colors and 2 of the printed ones. Here is some inspiration for skinny scarves & bandanas:

As for printed and metallic tights, I loved Anna Sui’s F/W 2013 collection & Giamba by Giambiattista Valli’s Spring 2015 RTW & Pre-Fall 2016 collections. Pairing metallic or printed tights under something as simple as a turtleneck cotton black dress gives the outfit an entire new dimension. I love the idea of mixing textures in an outfit (especially in the winter), so pairing printed or metallic pair of tights with a suede or leather skirt and a cropped knit sweater created for some fun textures in an outfit. These tights are a great way to add new textures to an outfit and still achieve that winter layered look. Here’s some inspiration for how to wear printed and metallic tights:

Happy layering! How you do style skinny scarves & printed/metallic tights? Comment below!

  1. Thank you, Jamie!! I am super excited about the new theme, too. I still need to go out & get both of these items, too. You're so right about the grey dress outfit. Printed tights are the perfect way to spice up a basic outfit (aka my entire wardrobe). Thanks for commenting 🙂 XO, Nicole

  2. First of all, new blog theme is AMAZING. Looks so incredibly chic and pairs with your content SO well!! Secondly, love love love LOVE the tights! I haven't yet tried to rock a skinny scarf but I love those as well. I have a plain gray dress (from Old Navy of all places) that I wore in November with plain black tights, but it would've looked so cute with polka dot or metallic – I'll definitely have to do that next time I wear it (and take outfit pics…).
    Great post as always!
    xoxo, Jamie
